Southforward.com – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo likens Iranian leaders just like the mafia.

Reported by Reuters on Monday (07/23/2010), it was delivered by Pompeo in a speech at the Reagan Foundation, Sunday night local time.

Foreign Minister Pompeo pledged support to Iranians who did not like the country’s ruling regime.

“Iran is run by something resembling a mafia more than just a government,” Pompeo said, citing what he called corrupt Iranian leaders.

Pompeo insists that Washington is not afraid of Tehran. “We are not afraid to handle the regime (Iran) at the highest level,” he said.

He said Washington wants all countries to reduce Iranian oil imports to near zero levels.

According to him, the US government has launched Farsi or Persian channels on television, radio, digital and social media formats “to reach Iranians in Iran and around the world,” he said. The move is a support for Iranians who are anti-regime.

US and Iran tensions have been on the rise since the last few months.
