1 US Soldier killed in Afghan assault

Southforward.com – One US soldier was killed and two others wounded in an “insider attack” incident in Afghanistan.

Quoted from Military.com, Monday (9/7/2018), the US defense said a victim named Corporal Joseph Maciel from South Gate, California.

Maciel (20) died, and two other soldiers were injured during an “insider attack” in southern Afghanistan over the weekend.

Citing the same report, the two US soldiers who were wounded were not informed of their identity but now the condition has stabilized in the hospital.

Maciel has been deployed from Fort Benning, Georgia, since February to help provide security to US military advisers.

“Corporal Maciel is an excellent soldier who is loved by his team mates and dedicated to our mission,” said Lieutenant Colonel David Conner.

There were no elements of attack from outside the base. The US Defense is still investigating the case.
