Southforward.com – Australia is rumored to have had a British defense contractor, BAE Systems to build the country’s largest warship.
Quoted from an official statement, Friday (29/06/2018), it was delivered by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in a press statement.
In the same statement, the value of the shipbuilding contract is worth AUD 35 billion.
He also said the shipbuilding process will also absorb 5,000 direct and 10,000 indirect workers from national suppliers.
“This is a big national company, it will be a continuous shipbuilding program that creates 5,000 jobs directly, and 10,000 indirectly through the national supply chain,” he told Radio ABC in Adelaide.
“This is a big commitment to work in South Australia,” Turnbull said. PM Turnbull wants to make the city of Adelaide a naval shipbuilding center in Australia and to the world.
The “Hunter Class” warships will later replace the Anzac-class frigate, which has been operating since 1996.
