There are many great candidates running in high profile races in the South this year.
I am sure you have heard of a several of these great candidates - just to name a few:
- Wendy Davis for Governor in Texas
- Jason Carter for Governor in Georgia
- Michelle Nunn for the US Senate in Georgia
- Alison Lundergan Grimes for US Senate in Kentucky
However, there are also many local races across the South that have not received the same attention these "big" races get from the media.
South Forward has a clear mission; to help build the Democratic bench throughout the South. This starts with Democratic candidates at the local level.
Just last week there was an election in Gainesville, Florida. South Forward ran an independent expenditure campaign for Helen K. Warren who is a first time candidate running for an open at-large seat on the Gainesville City Commission.
South Forward initially got involved in this race because one of Helen's campaign yard signs was vandalized with an anti-gay slur. We came to you and asked for your financial help so South Forward could support Helen's candidacy with a robust independent expenditure program. You answered and we did just that.
Helen finished election night leading a 5 way primary. She now faces an April 8th run-off against someone who calls herself a Democrat but is being supported by the Gainesville Tea Party. Wow, that's a new one for me!
South Forward is again ready to help make sure Helen Warren wins and we are on a tight time frame.
The radio ads are cut, the direct mail is designed, and we have live phone calls scheduled to help Get-Out-The-Vote for Helen, but we need your help to do so.
Your support helps make it possible for Democrats to win throughout the South.
